Arthur Hayes Critiques Cryptocurrency Projects Lacking Fundamentals
Arthur Hayes, the co-founder of BitMEX, recently took to Twitter to express his views on the current state of the cryptocurrency market. He emphasized the importance of financial fundamentals, stating, "This is fundamentals szn, bitchez. You don't have customers, you don't have revenue." Hayes is clearly frustrated with projects that rely solely on speculative trading rather than generating real revenue and customer engagement.

He advocates for token buybacks and burns, a strategy where projects repurchase their tokens from the market and remove them from circulation, to enhance the value of tokens backed by actual revenue. This approach reflects his belief in the need for cryptocurrencies to be supported by solid financial performance.
Shifting Focus from the Federal Reserve to the Treasury
Hayes also advises investors to shift their attention from the Federal Reserve to the Treasury, arguing that the real action is in liquidity management. He dismisses the importance of the Fed's interest rate policies, saying, "The real show is at the Treasury. Ignore the Fed. It doesn't matter. Powell isn't important under a democratic regime, and he isn't important under a republican regime now. People focus on interest rates, but that's not the game. The game is liquidity, and liquidity is determined by the Treasury."
This perspective has shaped his investment strategy, with Hayes allocating 60%-65% of his portfolio to Bitcoin, 20% to Ethereum, and the rest to what he calls "quality shitcoins." These are tokens he believes have real utility and strong financial flows, distinguishing them from purely speculative assets.
Bitcoin Price Prediction and Macroeconomic Trends
Hayes remains bullish on Bitcoin, predicting it will reach $1 million by 2028. He attributes this forecast to the U.S.'s spending habits and the flow of capital into hard assets, driven by excess liquidity. His prediction is deeply connected to his observations of broader macroeconomic trends and capital flows.
The Maturing Cryptocurrency Market
The focus on fundamentals signals a shift in the cryptocurrency market, as investors increasingly prioritize projects with strong revenue streams, user adoption, and sound tokenomics. This transition suggests that the market is maturing, with financial performance becoming a more significant factor in determining value than pure speculation.
